Daryl G. ‘Digger’ Meyers, 73 of Batesville

Daryl “Digger” Meyers, age 73, of Batesville, Indiana, will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, proud Papaw, and a friend to everyone he met. Daryl had a special way of making everyone feel welcome and comfortable, and his wonderful sense of humor could bring a smile to anyone’s face. He was truly one of a kind, and his presence made life brighter for everyone fortunate enough to know him.

The son of Nelson G. and Margaret E. (Estridge) Meyers was born on August 1, 1953 and graduated from Batesville High School in 1972.

Daryl married the love of his life, Shirley Meyers, on December 16, 1989. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Daryl was an amazing husband, an awesome father, and, without a doubt, the best Papaw. His family meant everything to him, and the love he gave them will remain in their hearts forever.

Throughout his working years, Daryl was employed at Hill-Rom and Bed Tech, where he dedicated many years of hard work. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball. He also loved playing golf, cheering on the Indiana Hoosiers, and riding his beloved red tractor. Whether he was enjoying his favorite hobbies or simply spending time with family and friends, Daryl knew how to make the most of every moment. Above all, he loved making people laugh and had a gift for making everyone feel like they belonged.

Daryl leaves behind his loving wife, Shirley Meyers; his children, Travis (Julie) Meyers, Adam Meyers, Ashley (Jeremy) Gunter, and Shawna (Larry) Marksberry; his beloved grandchildren, Holly, Calvin, and Lauren Meyers, Evan Meyers, Zoey Ahern, Sydney and Owen Gunter, and Brayton, Brandon, and Bradly Fenker; his mother, Margaret Meyers; brothers, Vernon Meyers and Rodger (Taaron) Meyers and sister, Ellen (Jim) Evans; along with numerous other great-grandchildren and extended family members who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson Meyers; his daughter, Sonya Hensley; and his grandchild, Tyler Fenker.

Though Daryl’s passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those who loved him, the memories he created will live on for generations. His laughter will echo in family stories, his love will continue through the lives he touched, and his legacy will remain in the family he cherished so deeply.

Daryl was more than a husband, father, brother, and Papaw. He was a source of comfort, laughter, and unconditional love. He had a way of making ordinary moments special and making everyone around him feel at home. Those who knew him will forever remember his humor, his kind heart, his love for his family, and the joy he brought into their lives.
