Darren Wayne Shuman 50, of Dillsboro, IN was killed in a tragic accident Saturday July 14, 2018 doing what he loved best, farming. He was born Tuesday, September 26, 1967 in Lawrenceburg IN, the son of Richard and Mary (Elbrecht) Shuman.
Darren grew up on the family farm west of Dillsboro, where he lived his entire life. He was a 1986 graduate of South Dearborn High School where he enjoyed being a member of the band and Swing Choir. Darren went on to attend Purdue University, which he probably decided upon by age 2 that was where he was going to attend. Darren graduated from Purdue in 1990 with a degree in Animal Sciences. Darren worked for several years for Pavy Stockyards in Milroy, IN and, also in Greensburg, IN. For the past 20 years he has been employed as an Associate Scientist in the Quality Control Lab for Wild Flavors, Inc in Erlanger, KY
No matter what other jobs he had, the farm was his passion and what and where he most wanted to be. Besides farming Darren enjoyed dirt track racing and for many years helped out his friends Jeff and Les Simonton weekly at the track.
Darren is survived by his parents Richard and Mary Shuman, sisters Cheryl Shuman and Jody (Shuman) Hurr all of Dillsboro, nephew Evan Hurr of Dillsboro, IN niece Emily Hurr of Madison, IN and his Aunt Margaret Vogel of Cross Plains, IN. Also several cousins, neighbors and friends that he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his Paternal Grandmother Vera “Nooks” (Pegee) Shuman and Maternal Grandparents Quentin and Elizabeth (Miller) Elbrecht.
Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 9901 Central Ave., Dillsboro, IN 47018, at 11 AM, Friday, July 20, 2018, with Rev. Richard Kolaskey officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Thursday July 19, 2018 and 1 hour prior to services Friday also at the church. Memorials may be given to the Dillsboro Fire Department or Special Olympics Indiana, for Ripley, Ohio, Dearborn Counties.
