Darleen E. Gabbard, age 79 of Lawrenceville, IN, passed peacefully at The Willows of Greensburg on May 6, 2024. Darleen was born to Paul and Elsie (Baas) Scholl on July 1, 1944 at MMCH in Batesville, Indiana. As a child, Darleen adored helping her dad on the farm. She loved to tell the story that her birthdays were spent bailing hay in the summer heat, but she always had homemade ice cream waiting for her when the day was done. Darleen was the hardest worker. She ran her own produce stand, Darleen’s Garden Market, in Penntown and worked many years at McPherson’s in Sunman. Darleen did not slow down after retirement! She spent her days quilting, gardening, tending to her hummingbirds, and caring for her grandchildren. She was also an amazing cook.
Darleen is survived by her loving husband, Harry Gabbard; her children, Brenda (Mark) Wood, Jackie (Wesley) Gore, Nelson Venter, Nicole (Michael) Weiler, and Melissa (Bryan) Mollaun; and her grandchildren, Nathan, Karli, Hannah, Vince, Braylon, and Chesney, as well as several step-children and grandchildren. Darleen was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Kathy Rosemeyer, and her brother, Robert Scholl.
