Daniel Riehle

Daniel Joseph Riehle, age 75, of West Harrison, Indiana, and Sioux Narrows, Ontario, died on September 10, 2023. Dan, a man of abiding faith, entered the Kingdom of Heaven from a place he considered “Heaven on Earth”, Lake of the Woods.  Dan will be dearly missed by his wife Melanie; his children Ann-Marie (Bryan) Ahern, Joseph A. Riehle,  Janet (Charles) Hopkins, and Elle (Matt) Sierzputowski. Grandpa Dan, aka Grandpa What’s His Name (GPWHN), cherished his grandchildren Vivian and Elizabeth Ahern and Charles and Dorothy Hopkins. He also is survived by his mother Martha LeSaint Riehle (105!); and his four brothers William (Eileen), James (Peggy), Nicholas (Janet), and Gregory (Susanne). He was a special uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Dan was a graduate of Purcell High School ‘66; University of Dayton B.S. ’70 and M.S. ’72; and Ohio State University M.S. ’79. Dan was a born mathematician and began his professional career in the data warehousing area with Cincom Systems and Teradata Corporation. At the age of 50, he adhered to one of his favorite expressions  “Every 10 years, there should be a revolution’. He quit his job and started a consulting business focused on metadata solutions, having clients on 5 continents (North America; South America; Australia; Europe; and Asia). As the decades passed and never idle, he engaged in many ‘projects’ such as a Red Devon cattle operation; rehabbing a vacant house; bulldozing and bush hogging on his ranch property; donating talent to pro-life efforts or completely renovating outbuildings on his island in paradise. He passed away while the construction of a gazebo was in progress, his 8th building on the island. He will be remembered as an intellectual, an outdoorsman, a creative problem solver, and a man of wit, kindness, adventure, and brashness. He was a man of personal clarity and adhered to the philosophical ideas of reason, individualism, and libertarianism.  His legacy of love and devotion to family will bless each member forever.  Dan’s guiding prayer in life was “Thy will be done”.
