Danny Murtaugh, 70 years old, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026. Born and raised in New Alsace, Dan spent his life in the community he loved. He attended St. Paul’s School and was a proud member of the last graduating class of North Dearborn High School.
Dan dedicated many years to his work, including employment at Schenley Distillery and later at Batesville Casket, where he worked faithfully until retirement. In his free time, Dan enjoyed collecting and listening to vinyl records, especially music from the 1960s and 1970s. He found great satisfaction in woodworking. He would use anything from a chainsaw to a scroll saw to make American flags, eagles, alligators, and everything in between. He enjoyed being outside and took pride in caring for trees, gardening, and helping things grow. Whether tending to the outdoors or enjoying a favorite record, Dan appreciated the simple joys of life.
Dan will be deeply missed by Kathy, his wife of 43 years; their three daughters Rachel Murtaugh, Laura (Bryan) Stewart, and Sarah Murtaugh; grandsons Cooper & Caleb Stewart; siblings Carol (Ray) Henshaw, Sandy Schoettelkotte, brother-in-law Harry Hartman. He is preceded in death by siblings JoAnn Hartman, BIL Jim Schoettelkotte and parents Marie & Clarence Murtaugh.
