Dan Franks

Daniel Paul Franks of Batesville, Indiana passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. The son of Paul Daniel and Marjorie (Nolan) Franks was born on December 25, 1956 in Chicago, IL.

Dan graduated in the class of 1974 from Downers Grove South High School in Downers Grove, IL and then attended the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL. On November 3, 1995 he married Detrie Leisure in Franklin, IN.

Dan was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Batesville FOE Aerie #1130, Batesville VFW Auxiliary #3183, Knights of Columbus Council #1461 and the GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.)

Dan worked as a golf course superintendent for many years enjoying a job that kept him on the greens. Then he and Detrie ventured into his hobby of bowling, with the purchase of the East Bowl and the new Lefty’s Pub in Batesville. After they sold the business, Dan became a driver for Margaret Mary Health and recently retired. He and Detrie were preparing to move to Florida to enjoy the retired life.

The avid Purdue fan loved going to the games and cheering on his team. He and Detrie also liked taking vacations and traveling in their earlier years. Golfing and bowling were two of his favorite past-times though. If he wasn’t at work or in the pool, you could find him on the course or in the lanes. Dan and Detrie were a very social couple too, with lots of friends. They were usually entertaining, with pool parties and of course their two annual Christmas & Christmas in July parties. Dan always wore a smile and was a friend to all. He will be so dearly missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Detrie Franks, twin daughters, Lindsay (Piotr) Faryniarz and Lauren (Nick) Terruso; step-daughter, Kelsey Giesing; three sisters, Sue Ciardiello, Patricia Dames and Jean Bunce; and a proud poppa to seven grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Schroeder.

His wishes were to be cremated. Services may be at a later date.
