D1P Finishes 2nd in Midwest Youth Tournament

The D1P 17u traveled to Triton Central High School in Fairland, IN this past weekend and earned a runner-up finish losing 73-68 in the championship of the Midwest Youth Tournaments Bring Your Game tournament to Hickory Hoops from Southern Indiana.  The squad struggled defensively against the athletic size in the first half and trailed 43-31 at halftime.  After trading buckets through the the first half of the second stanza, the squad initiated a full court press that gave the opponent trouble.  D1P was able to cut it to 3 points and had a 3 point attempt to tie it late in the contest, but was unable to convert and overcome the solid Hickory team.
The squad was led in the championship contest by Drew Volz with 19 points and 7 rebounds.  Trenten Luers tallied 15.  Drake Scaggs had 11.  Brayden Maple had 8 points and 4 rebounds.  Karson Templeton scored 8.  Evan Lewis put up 4 and Cayden Drake rounded out the scoring with 3 points and 4 rebounds.
To get to the championship game the squad defeated a very skilled Crawford Elite team from Indianapolis in a hard played contest 89-83.  D1P shot a very impressive 33-35 from the free throw line to secure the victory and propel them to their 3rd championship game in the first 3 weekends of the spring season.  Volz was incredible during the game scoring 30 points on a perfect 16-16 from the free throw line, along with 6 rebounds.  Scaggs had 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.  Templeton had 14 points and 5 rebounds.  Luers scored 12.  Maple scored 9.  Lewis had 5 points and 6 boards and Drake had 4 points.
Earlier in the day during the round of 8 the squad defeated Sander Elite from Southern Indiana 81-56.  Volz tallied 21 points and 8 rebounds, Luers scored 17, Drake tallied 16 points and 8 rebounds, Maple scored 9 with 4 rebounds, Lewis added 7 points and 4 rebounds, Scaggs added 6 points and 4 assists, and Templeton scored 5 points.
In pool play on Saturday the squad won easily in both contests to win pool B with victories over B2E from Hamilton, OH to begin the tournament 83-55 and Hickory Elite Red from Fishers, IN 103-48.
In the first game vs B2E, Luers had 24, Hughes had 20 points and 8 rebounds, Templeton had 17 points and 5 boards, Volz had 11 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists, Scaggs 9 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists, and Lewis contribute 8 points and 7 rebounds.
In the second game of the day vs Hickory Elite Red the squad shot an incredible 76% from the field for the blow out win.  Offensively Volz led the way with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists, Luers tallied 21 points and 5 assists, Scaggs had 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, Templeton put up 16 points and 5 assists, Hughes 15 points and 4 assists and Lewis rounded out the offensive onslaught with 10 points and 6 rebounds.
The squad is now (10-3) on the spring season and will return to action the weekend of 4/26-27 in Louisville, KY in the Midwest Basketball Tournaments Fall City Classic.
