Cynthia “Cindy” K. Coker (Prosser), 67, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the Waters of Rising Sun nursing home in Rising Sun, Indiana of natural causes.
She entered life in January 25, 1952 in Eagan, Minnesota where she spent her early years spending time in the great outdoors, ice fishing, ice skating and driving fast cars through several feet of snow. She graduated from Rosemount High School in 1970 and in 1974 she moved to Colorado to study electronics from Red Rocks Community College. She remained in Colorado for 12 years where she met and married Wesley “Wes” J. Coker on March 19th, 1984. Cindy and Wes enjoyed a year in Belize, spending their days on the water and in the sun. While there, they started a water diving resort. This was a harrowing experience for them both, narrowly getting to safety after 10 rebels invaded. They moved to Southern Indiana and shared 21 years of marriage before his death in September 2005.
She spent the last 20 years of her life enjoying the beautiful Ohio River in the surrounding areas of Dearborn County. She was a master gardener and enjoyed being outdoors, taking any chance she could get to take a ride on a sailboat, and dreaming. She channelled her creativity through crafting, coloring, and jewellery making. Spending time with her daughters and grandchildren always brought Cindy joy. She was an avid Christian and enjoyed making people smile. Cindy was such a free spirit a very kind and loving soul who enjoyed doing things on her own terms.
She will be lovingly remembered by her 3 daughters, Amethyst “Ame” Sawyer and her husband Wiley, Arial Patel and her husband Nish, and Wesleyann Coker and her companion Zachary Current; her grandchildren, Paige, Gage, Shaelynn, Amriella, Kiara and Jocelyn, and her 2 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Pat Helget and her husband Mark, Brenda Grimsrud, and Susan Grimsrud; her brother Vernon Grimsrud; and many other beloved relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Wesley “Wes” J. Coker in September 2005, her mother Joan (Prosser) Grimsrud in June 1997, her father Vernon Grimsrud in July 2018 and her brother William Allen in June 2015.
The celebration of life will be held on Friday July 12th 2019 between 5-7pm at the Ohio County Historical Museum, 212 S Walnut St, Rising Sun, IN 47040.
