Omer Curtis Upchurch, 72, of Canaan passed away at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2025 at his home. He was born at Monticello in Wayne County, Kentucky on March 23, 1952, the son of Herbie and Ethel Upchurch. He was married to Brenda Carr on June 27, 1978 and she preceded him in death on April 28, 2018. Survivors include one son Rodney (Alicia) Upchurch of Osgood; two brothers Clyde Upchurch of Monticello, Kentucky and Keith Upchurch of Cross Plains; three sisters Margie Davis of Harrison, Ohio, Lena Stockett of Springfield, Tennessee, and Pauline Zigler of Florida. He was also preceded in death by his parents, His brothers Kay, Gaill, and Larry, and his sister Leacher Carter. Curtis served in Germany with the US Army’s 36th Artillery Division and rose to the rank of Corporal. For service to his country, he received the National Defense Service Medal. In civilian life Curtis and his son Rodney owned and operated C & R Concrete Construction for over 20 years. He had also worked for Bishop Footer and Foundations in Cross Plains as wells as R. L. Wood Excavating. Curtis was a member of the Bridge of Hope Worship Center, the Versailles American Legion, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 17 at 10:30 a.m.at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Norman officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery at Cross Plains with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Salem Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
