COVID-19 spikes around the state blamed on delta variant

Statewide — Coronavirus cases are on the rise in Indiana.

Six hundred and twelve new COVID-19 cases were reported Wednesday, which is the highest number since 674 cases were announced on May 27.

Locally, Dearborn County reported three new positive cases while Ripley and Franklin counties each reported one new case. There were no new cases reported in Decatur County on Wednesday.

The Indiana State Department of Health and several experts are blaming the spike on the highly contagious delta variant, and say most of the patients in the hospital due to the new strain were not vaccinated.
