Councilman, wife waive initial hearings, request jury trials

BROOKVILLE, IN — A Brookville Town Councilman and his wife have waived their initial hearings and requested jury trials in their respective cases.

62-year-old Chuck Campbell and his wife Donna are charged in connection with an incident earlier this month at Riverfront Apartments in Brookville.

Chuck Campbell is facing charges of Battery Against a Public Safety Official (Level 6 felony) and Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A misdemeanor), while Donna Campbell is also charged with resisting.

Both pleaded not guilty to the charges when they appeared this week before Judge Clay Kellerman in Franklin Circuit Court.

According to court documents, several Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the apartment complex on Fairfield Avenue to assist Brookville Police officers who responded to a report of a fight and a possible stabbing.

One of the deputies said shortly after he arrived, a car drove up and Chuck Campbell got out and came toward the deputies with a wooden club in his hand.

Campbell was ordered to drop the club but he allegedly refused and was taken to the ground by deputies.

At the same time, investigators say Donna Campbell began to interfere with efforts to subdue her husband.

While deputies tried to de-escalate the situation, Chuck Campbell allegedly kicked one of their fellow deputies twice in the leg.

Chuck Campbell was arrested and booked into the Franklin County Security Center. He later posted a $1,050 bond and was released.

Donna Campbell was not arrested that night but received a court summons.

Franklin County Prosecutor Chris Huerkamp says investigations into other incidents that night at the apartment complex continue.
