(Batesville, IN) – Batesville City Council voted 5-0 Monday night to approve a five-year tax abatement for Med-Mizer, Inc.
The hospital equipment manufacturer has embarked on an expansion project, and expects to invest about $5 million in personal property and create 73 new full-time jobs at the facility on Commerce Drive.
The abatement is for five years on personal property at 50 percent each year.
Med-Mizer is also planning a property expansion in the coming year.
If all of the equipment associated with the the current expansion is not purchase by the end of 2026, the city’s Economic Development Commission (EDC) expects to ask for an additional abatement at the beginning of next year so the full benefit of the project can be realized.
Kevin Campbell, EDC President, addressed council on behalf of Med-Mizer and company CEO Brian Roth, who also spoke briefly.
The EDC made a favorable recommendation to council for the tax abatement at an August 21 meeting and public hearing.
