Cora Lynn Markland arrived into this world at 21 weeks 5 days gestation on September 17, 2026 at 8:42pm in Ascension St. Vincent Women and Infants Hospital. Cora measured 11 inches long and weighed 1 pound 4 ounces. Her life was treasured in moments instead of years, and each one has touched her family’s hearts forever. She is the beloved daughter of Jaron and Kendall Markland.
Cora was making herself known long before she arrived by being a very active baby who constantly moved and kicked in her mommy’s belly. She may have been tiny, but the love surrounding her wasn’t. She was dreamed about and loved more than she would ever know. Her family imagined the days they would watch her grow, hear her laugh, hold her in their arms, and begin to make memories with her. Having to say goodbye before experiencing those things is a pain that words can never truly describe, but they find solace in knowing she only ever knew peace and the comforting touch of her parents.
Cora’s time on Earth was fleeting, but the space she holds in so many hearts is not. Her short life left an enormous mark on so many, and there will never be a day she isn’t remembered. Her big sister and brother will always have a little sister to cherish. Her grandparents will always have a granddaughter whose life was precious. Jaron and Kendall will forever be Cora’s daddy and mommy, a bond they’ll have for a lifetime.
Cora is survived by her parents, Jaron and Kendall Markland; her older siblings Liberty and Riley Markland; her grandparents, Aubree and Bradley Hobbs and Tanya and Wade Markland; her great grandparents Tammi Pearcy, Allen Herbert, and Gene Markland, great great grandmother Penny Cummings; her aunts and uncles Mikayla (Tyler) Sherrard, Evan Bannon, Chance Crawley, Morgan Herbert, Mercedize (Kirsten) Johnson, Stevie Hobbs, Bethany (Scott) Bogan, Meranda Harris, Lillie Dewitt, and Brooklynn Bogan, as well as many great/great great aunts and uncles and even more cousins. Cora was proceeded in death and met in Heaven by so many loving family members and friends.
While Cora was here but a moment, her departure changed her family forever. Please lift them up in your prayers as they navigate their grief.
