Construction in progress at I-74 bridges over Whitewater River in Dearborn Co.

DEARBORN COUNTY, IN — Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Milestone Contractors L.P. began work Monday on a $24.7 million bridge rehabilitation project on the I-74 bridges over the Whitewater River in Dearborn County. The bridges are located just under a mile west of U.S. 52 near the Ohio state line.

Single-lane closures began Monday on both eastbound and westbound I-74, starting with the outside lanes. Outside lanes are scheduled to remain closed through Wednesday, Oct. 13, as crews complete milling and paving work along the shoulder of the roadway. Lane closures will move to the inside starting on or around Thursday, Oct. 14, and will remain in place through mid-November for median cross-over construction ahead of superstructure replacements on both bridges.

Once both cross-overs are in place, all traffic will be moved to the eastbound side of I-74 while crews begin rehabbing the westbound bridge. Work is expected to move to the eastbound bridge in 2023.

The contract was awarded to Milestone Contractors L.P. in September. The overall completion date is June 25, 2024, with an intermediate completion date for both bridges in the fall of 2023.

Motorists are reminded to slow down, use extra caution, and drive distraction-free in and near all work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
