Columbus, IN — Jon Schaffer, of Columbus, was one of many people charged this weekend with issues related to rioting in Washington D.C. on January 6th.
Schaffer is known in the Columbus area for being in a heavy metal band, Ice Earth. Schaffer is alleged to have been among the rioters that sprayed US Capital Police officers with bear spray in an effort to push the officers back inside the Capital and breach the Capitol Building. Schaffer was identified on surveillance video carrying bear spray and engaging in verbal altercations with officers.
Schaffer’s charges include Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds Without Lawful Authority; Disrupting the Orderly Conduct of Government Business; Knowingly Engages in an Act of Physical Violence Against Any Person or Property in any Restricted Building or Grounds; Violent Entry and Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building; Engage in an Act of Physical Violence in a Capitol Building; and Parade, Demonstrate, or Picket in a Capitol Building.
