Clarence J. Vogelgesang

Clarence J. Vogelgesang, of Aurora, Indiana, passed away September 24, 2017 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

He was born April 17, 1929 in Yorkville, IN, son of the late Urban and Marie (Hornbach) Vogelgesang.

He worked for Seagram’s Distillery, retiring after over 46 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he sang in the church choir for years. Clarence proudly served our country in the US Air Force. He also served as chaplain for the local Honor Guard Military funeral detail. He was a member and served on the board of the DAV in Indianapolis, and was a member of the Aurora VFW. Clarence was very active in the Antique Tractor Club, where he demonstrated an apple cider press. He and Alice also served a great bean soup along with the cider. In his earlier years, he volunteered at the Hogan Township Fire Department. Clarence loved to garden, but his favorite time was spent with his family. .

Surviving are children, Angela (Sam) Bentle of Aurora, IN, Ivan (Rhonda) Vogelgesang of West Lafayette, IN, Joyce (Don) Cavin of Hillsborough, NC, Dan (Kelly) Vogelgesang of Breman, IN, Gary (Debbie) Vogelgesang of New Albany, OH, and Mark (Gena) Vogelgesang of Noblesville, IN; siblings, Norma Banschbach of Greendale, IN, Leo (Edna) Vogelgesang of Cincinnati., OH, Betty Chrisman of Aurora, IN; grandchildren, Kyle, Laura, Keith, Tyler, Anthony, Dana, Payton, Nathan, Owen, Gavin and Avery; Great Grandchildren, Gabby and Charlie.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Alice (Connolly) Vogelgesang, siblings, Jim Vogelgesang and Lois Doerflein.

Friends will be received Friday, September 29, 2017, 9:00 am – 11:00 am at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 203 Fourth Street, Aurora, Indiana.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s at 11:00 am following visitation.

Internment will follow in the St. Martin’s Cemetery, Yorkville, Indiana. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of local Veterans Service Organizations.
