(Greensburg, IN) – The City of Greensburg has announced the promotion of Aaron Schwendenmann to Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, and Joe Cain to Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent.

Schwendenmann’s promotion is effective April 12, while Cain took on his new duties in February.

Schwendenmann has been a part of the Water Plant team since 2011, and takes the leadership position following Superintendent Rick Denney’s resignation in January.

Cain has served as the Wastewater Treatment Plant’s Lab Technician since 2022, and began his career with the City of Greensburg in 1998.

City officials say Schwendenmann, a lifelong resident of Greensburg, has been an integral part of the team, and has worked on the outside crew and in the lab, gaining valuable hands-on experience.  He earned several certifications, which demonstrate his expertise in water treatment, according to the city. Schwendenmann says he and his wife, Shawna, along with their two young children, are thrilled about this new chapter and the opportunity to contribute to Greensburg’s water services.

Cain is also a lifelong city resident, and graduated from Greensburg High School in 1992. He and his wife, LuAnn, married in 1998 and have three children: Samantha, Clayton, and Morgan. Cain began his career with the City in 1998 at the Water Plant before transitioning to the Wastewater Treatment Plant in 2004. In addition to most recently serving  as the Wastewater Treatment Plant Lab Manager, he also holds certifications. Cain says he and his family are excited about this opportunity and remain committed to serving the community.

“I want to take a moment to sincerely thank Rick Denney for his dedicated service to the City of Greensburg since 1996,” said Mayor Joshua Marsh. “Throughout his tenure, Rick played a vital role in guiding our team through the construction and transition to a new treatment facility, as well as the city’s growth and development. We deeply appreciate his contributions and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.

“At the same time, I am proud to announce the well-earned internal promotions of Aaron and Joe to leadership roles. I have full confidence in their ability to lead our Utilities department with efficiency, effectiveness, and a strong vision for the future of our community.”
