(Batesville, IN) – Batesville City Council unanimously approved $150,000 in American Relief Plan Act (coronavirus) funds Monday night for the Batesville Skatepark and Outdoor Adventure’s plan to build a Pump Track at the facility on Pohlman Avenue.

It’s part of Phase 2 of the skatepark project.

Council’s approval comes after a presentation by the Batesville Skatepark Advocacy Group and skatepark supporters at last month’s meeting which included a series of in-person and video testimonials in support of building the Pump Track, along with graphics showing the planned overall Phase 2 design of the Pump Track and a Bouldering Wall (pictured).

The group and others touted the venue’s success in attracting skateboarders from out of state since the grand opening and ribbon cutting in late April.

They added a number of those visitors stay in town to shop and eat.

In addition to economic benefits, speakers told council members the skatepark has helped youth with social skills, physical and mental health, and community engagement.
