Child found in hot car while mom was with DCS

Anderson, IN—A woman is charged with neglect of a dependent for leaving her child in a hot car whilst being interviewed by the Department of Child Services.

27-year-old Jennifer Ost of Milroy gave birth to a boy on Friday, July 12 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital and signed him out against medical advice. court documents say she was talking to DCS on Tuesday at Community Hospital in Anderson due to this.

Police say the newborn was getting an exam nearly 2 hours before they were called to the parking lot on reports of another small child in a car. Hospital police responded and observed a male child watching a movie on a cell phone.

Police noted that it was 86 degrees outside, all of the vehicle’s windows were closed and the child was extremely wet from sweating. After running the license plate, police determined that the child belonged to Ost.

When questioned, Ost claimed that the child did not want to come into the appointment with her, so she decided to leave him in the car. Both children were taken into DCS care according to court documents.
