Chester “Fred” Swegman, 97, Greensburg

Chester “Fred” Swegman, age 97, of Greensburg, Indiana, passed away on December 16, 2024, at Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg, IN. He was born on December 26, 1926, in Greensburg, IN the son of Milton and Hazel (Abbott)Swegman.

Fred was a proud graduate of Greensburg Community High School and married the love of his life, June M. Moore, on December 29, 1945. The couple shared a lifetime together until June’s passing in 2015.

Fred began his career as a truck driver for Meadow Gold Milk Company, which led him to eventually own his own trucking company. He ran the business with great pride until his retirement at the age of 56. After retiring from trucking, Fred bought two farms, one in Rushville and another in Jennings County, where he enjoyed spending his time doing physical work, including mowing and maintaining the property. He also cherished working in his yard and taking winter trips to Florida with June, where they spent time with friends at flea markets and festivals.

Fred’s legacy lives on through his children: Gary (Jeanne) Swegman and Diana Lozier; his grandchildren: Pam Swegman, Brian (Robin) Lozier, Melissa Merriman, Brad (Kelsey) Estes, Lisa (Phil) Stuhan, and Leslie (Todd) Unrue; and his ten great-grandchildren: Luke (Karolina) Anderson, Logan Merriman, Jacob Merriman, Brittany Lozier, Jeremy Herd, Logan (Whitney) Herd, Grayson Estes, Levi Unrue, Roan Estes, and Zuri Estes. Fred is also survived by his brother, Joe Swegman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife June, daughter Patricia “Patty” Estes, son-in-law Joe Lozier, and eight siblings.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Ray Sweet officiating. Burial will take place at South Park Cemetery in Greensburg.
