Charlie Hofer – UPDATED INFO – NO PUBLIC VISITATION OR SERVICES

Charles “Charlie” Edward Hofer, age 92 of Brookville, died Wednesday, March 11, 2020 peacefully in his home surrounded by his children.  Born July 13, 1927 in Brookville, Indiana he was one of six children born to the late Harry and Dora (Biere) Hofer. Charlie was wed to Charlotte Deaton on December 1, 1950 and enjoyed 65 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on February 27, 2016.  He was a member of the U.S. Army, an avid woodworker and gardener, and a loving dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  Charlie loved to travel in his RV around the country.  He worked for and later retired from Sperry Rubber.

Charlie is survived by five children including Karen (Don) Murray of Brookville, Peg (Ron) St. John of West Harrison, John Hofer of Brookville, Janie (Todd) Thompson of Sevierville, TN, and Julie (Jeff) Riedman of Brookville.  Ten grandchildren also survive him including Jennifer Barrett, Jason (Brandi) Murray, Tasha (Kevin) Campbell, Emily (Kevin) Blades, Adam (Sarah) Hofer, Megan (Blake) Marshall, Chrissy St. John (Nick Dokich), Sarah (Doug) Reinhardt, Anna Thompson, and Mattie Thompson.  He also leaves behind seventeen great-grandchildren including Alexus (Jordan) Beasley, Kelsey Barrett, Olivia Barrett, Logan Blades, Jayden Murray, Charlotte Barrett, Elijah Murray, Grant Blades, Riley Barrett, Sydney Campbell, Emma Campbell, Kaylee Marshall, Brett Reinhardt, McKenna Marshall, Braydon Campbell, Brooklyn Reinhardt, and Maggie Hofer. Charles is also survived by three sisters, Wilma Hayward of Elkhart, JoAnn Dabney of Albuquerque, NM, and Marjorie Dorrel of Medina, OH, and one sister-in-law, Faye Hofer of Brookville.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Hofer and James Hofer, a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hofer, and a brother-in-law, Dean Hayward.

****Update – There will be no public visitation or services  due to the current CDC recommendations for public gatherings.  Services, officiated by Pastor Tom Marshall will be held on Saturday for immediate family members only at the funeral home and burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
