Friday was a long day for The North Decatur Chargers Baseball team, falling to The Southwestern Spartans 14-2.
SW opened up scoring in the first inning when an error scored one run. In the bottom of the first inning, ND tied things up at one. Conner Messer singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
The Spartans pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second Jordan Jones drew a walk, scoring one run and Anick Hartsell doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring three runs. SW scored six runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for The Spartans came thanks to a single by Christian DeArmitt, a fielder’s choice by Matthew Clements, and a double by Blake Dunbar. Hartsell was on the pitcher’s mound and allowed six hits and two runs over four innings, striking out five and walking zero.
Carson Parmer toed the rubber for North. Parmer allowed five hits and nine runs over three innings, striking out five. Ty Litmer threw two innings out of the bullpen. Messer went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead The Chargers Chargers in hits.
The Spartans collected ten hits. DeArmitt and Dunbar all managed multiple hits. DeArmitt led with three hits in three at-bats. Southwestern didn’t commit a single error in the field. Chancelor Johnson had five chances in the field, the most on the team.
