Chargers Drop Battle Against Patriots

Tuesday’s game against Union County was a heartbreaker for The North Decatur Chargers Varsity Baseball team as they lost the lead late in a 17-5 defeat.

The Patriots were down 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning when Mason Hornung singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.

ND struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Union County, giving up 17 runs.

Alex Vanwinkle led things off on the hill for UC. The hurler went two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out five, and walking one.

Jacob Mirick was on the pitcher’s mound for The Chargers. The lefthander surrendered zero runs on two hits over two innings, striking out three and walking zero. Carson Parmer, Ty Litmer, Trent Gauck, and Nate O’Dell each entered the game as relief, throwing two innings, two innings, two-thirds of an inning, and one-third of an inning respectively.

ND tallied eight hits on the day. Conner Messer and Gauck each managed multiple hits to lead The Chargers. Gauck and Messer had two hits.

The Patriots racked up 17 hits in the game. Eric Burdine, Mason Wicker, Vanwinkle, Mason Tipton, Josh Klein, and Noah Taylor all collected multiple hits. Burdine led UC with three hits in four at-bats.
