Chargers C-Team Secures First Win

The North Decatur Chargers C-Team earned their first win of the season in a nail-biting home game against the Edinburgh Lancers on Monday night.

The game opened with a fast-paced first quarter as Henry Kinker dominated inside, scoring three layups. Simon Barber added three points from a free throw and a layup, while Kipton Ruf chipped in a two-point bucket. The Chargers trailed narrowly, 12-11, at the end of the first quarter.

Scoring slowed in the second quarter, with Kinker providing the Chargers’ only points. Edinburgh capitalized, taking an 18-13 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, North Decatur began to close the gap. Ruf contributed four points, and Kinker added another layup, narrowing Edinburgh’s lead to 20-19.

The fourth quarter was a battle to the finish. Ruf hit two key free throws, Barber scored a layup, and Clayton Ruf drained a clutch two-point jumper. Kinker delivered a pivotal and-1 play to put the Chargers ahead by one with less than a minute remaining.

With 12 seconds left, Edinburgh had a chance to retake the lead, but Kinker’s stellar on-ball defense forced a tough shot, which he rebounded. Fouled with four seconds left, Kinker secured the ball, and Caiden Ryan dribbled out the clock, sealing the Chargers’ dramatic 28-27 victory.

Barber led the team with 10 rebounds, followed by Kipton Ruf with 8 and Kinker with 6. Ryan, Aiden Luttel, Harper Gunn, and Clayton Ruf each added a rebound.
