It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, nana, and friend, Cathy L. Shaw, age 65, of Patriot, IN. Cathy lost her hard fought battle with cancer on June 19, 2024, passing peacefully in a home filled with love for her.
Cathy was born on April 14, 1959 to Henry and Geraldine Powell as the first baby born in Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1977 and would go on to have many different careers in her life and making friends along the way. Her greatest career would be that of being a devoted wife of 42 years, and loving mother to her 5 children, who were her greatest joy.
Besides spending time with her family, friends, and her beloved dog Gracie, Cathy enjoyed simple things, like watching the sunrise while drinking her morning coffee, tending to her garden and many houseplants, and watching the hummingbirds. She also took great joy in crafting gifts by hand for her loved ones.
Through life’s many trials and tribulations, Cathy showed an unwavering amount of love, strength, and courage. Her beautiful soul will leave an everlasting mark on those she touched.
Cathy will be forever missed by her four children, Rebecca, Rikki (John Earls), Brandi, and Willy; her grandchildren, Jacob, Jared, Brandon, Clayton, Madison, Taylor, Cadence, Brayden, Mason, and several great-grandchildren; siblings, Vicki Baker and Richard Powell; her many friends, and her best friend, Jeannie Akemon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Shaw; her beloved son of 21 years, Jesse Shaw, and by her parents, Henry and Geraldine.
Per Cathy’s wishes, there will not be any funeral services. She wishes for her life to be celebrated, not mourned. A Celebration of Life will be held and announced at a later date.
