Carol Ann Niese, age 74, of Batesville, Indiana passed away at St. Andrew’s Health Campus in Batesville on Friday, September 11, 2026. She was born on November 11, 1951, at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. She is the daughter of Alexander and Agnes (nee Hiltz) Roell. She married Virgil Niese on October 14, 1972, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dover, Indiana.
Carol spent a career as a homemaker, opening her home over the decades to babysit many, many kids who became very dear to her heart. She was an excellent “green thumb,” who loved to be outside gardening in her early days with Virgil and kept an extensive collection of flowers. When enjoying her quiet time, she was either doing cross-stitch or crossword fill-ins. Many of her precious cross-stitch pieces will adorn family homes for years.
Carol is survived by her husband Virgil Niese of Batesville, Indiana; sons Anthony (Gina) Niese of Woodbury, Minnesota and Matthew Niese of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister Marlene Riehle of Sunman, Indiana; brother Paul (Susan) Roell of Batesville, Indiana; and grandchildren Audrey and Andrew Niese. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Rose Roell.
Visitation will be Friday, September 18th, from 4 – 7 p.m., at Weigel Funeral Home. The family will have private services at a later date and time. Memorial contributions may be made out to Batesville Food Pantry, Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice, or Phi Beta Psi (cancer support sorority).
