Carl “Joe” Joseph Winkler, 78, of Greensburg, Indiana, passed away on February 4, 2025, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 4, 1946, in Fostoria, Ohio, to Yale Winkler and Helen McCamment.
A proud graduate of Greensburg Community High School in 1965, Joe furthered his education by attending vocational school in Versailles, Indiana, where he earned his certification as an automotive technician. His commitment to service led him to join the United States Army, where he proudly served his country.
After his time in the military, Joe opened his own automotive shop, Joe’s Arco, where he provided expert service to Decatur County for many years. Later in life, he transitioned from the automotive industry to a career in cabinet design, working at Gillmans in Batesville.
Joe was a man of many passions. He loved fishing and spent countless hours enjoying the serenity of nature. His green thumb was evident in his garden, which he tended to with great care. Above all, Joe cherished time spent with his family.
On June 4, 1988, Joe married Alida G. Pook, with whom he shared a loving and devoted partnership.
Joe is survived by his wife, Alida, son, JD (Angie) Winkler, and was blessed with two grandchildren, Morgan and Devin Winkler, who were the lights of his life.
Joe is also survived by his brother, Bob (Pam) Winkler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Yale and Helen.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m., with Rev. Aaron West officiating. Burial and military honors will be held at South Park Cemetery following the service.
