Carl Haas

Carl Haas, 95, of Southgate, passed away Friday evening, September 27, 2019 surrounded by family. “Cool Carl” was a hard worker and was proud of his dairy farm. He was quite the history buff and could remember everything about American history and small-town history. Carl knew everyone in town, including where they grew up and where their parents were from. He loved to read and looked forward to completing the puzzles he found in the newspaper. Carl was proud to play shortstop for the Southgate baseball team and still had his jersey hanging in a place of honor in his house. After baseball games the gang would always celebrate by going dancing. Carl was quite the character and was famous for doing handstands at weddings. He was a lifelong member of All Saints Parish, 4-H Leader, and a member of the Democratic Precinct Committee.
Carl will be dearly missed by his children Stephen (Roberta) Haas of St. Peter’s, Carla Sue (Paul) Bischoff of Yorkville, Sharon (Sherry) (Ed) Willhelm of Cedar Grove, Mary (Eddie) Kesterson of South Carolina, Donald (Patricia) of Southgate, Jan (Jeff) Schnitker of Brookville, Emily Rivers of Ross, Betty Jo (Michael) Buckingham of Lawrenceburg, 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Carl is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jean, daughter Patricia Ann, and son-in-law David Rivers.
