C.W. “Bill” Soendlin, age 78

C.W. “Bill” Soendlin, age 78 of Greensburg, IN passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital. Born November 26, 1938 in Decatur Co., IN, Jackson Township, he was the son of Karl Soendlin & May (Bokelman) Richter. The 1956 graduate of Napoleon High School married Janice Larrison on June 6, 1964 at the New Point Christian Church.

Bill worked 38 years for the Peoria & Eastern, NY Central, Penn Central, Conrail & CSX Railroad. He served his country in the US Air Force from 1956 – 1964. He was a member of the American Legion Post 129 in Greensburg and the Retired Railroaders Group. Bill enjoyed politics and served as the Salt Creek Township Trustee from 1978 -1986 and was on the Rossburg Cemetery Board. Bill was a member of the New Point Christian Church where he was a past elder & deacon and the Greensburg Christian Church.   He loved his church and was very active in missions.

He enjoyed bowling, was an avid Reds fan, loved railroading and was a lifelong Rail Buff. He and his wife loved to travel and have been to all 50 states plus Canada. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary by going on a cruise to Alaska. He was an active member of the Greensburg Senior Citizens and the Greensburg & Batesville YMCA .

Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice Soendlin, his sons Deron Soendlin (Rhonda) of Germantown Hills, IL, David Soendlin (Carrie) of Greensburg, IN and Dyar Soendlin (Sheryl) of Greensburg, IN. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Katelynn Giraldo (Camilo), Bradley Soendlin and Drew, Claire & Logan Soendlin and his siblings Richard Soendlin (Rebecca) of Indianapolis, IN and Donna Swigart (Bill) of Rushville, IN and several nieces & nephews. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, January 27, 2017 from 4-8pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN and Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 10am – 11am at New Point Christian Church. Services will start at 11am on Saturday with Mark Vice officiating. Burial will follow services in Rossburg Cemetery with military graveside rites.
