Batesville’s effort to come back from down six runs in the third inning came up just short, as they fell 8-7 to Franklin County on Monday. The Bulldogs managed five runs in the failed comeback.Brayden Worthington, Sam Voegele, and Nathan Eckstein picked up RBIs to lead the rally.
The Bulldogs could not keep up with Franklin County early in the game. Franklin County scored on a groundout by Garrett Ertel, a walk by Jacob Hartman, an error, a walk by Augustus Runyon, a walk by Alex Bischoff, and a walk by Nick Pennington the second inning.
Joe Fields took the win for Franklin County. He allowed nine hits and six runs over six innings, striking out one. Ertel threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Ertel recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Franklin County.
Voegele took the loss for Batesville. He went one and one-third innings, allowing seven runs on three hits, walking six and striking out one.
Batesville racked up 11 hits. Eckstein, Trey Heidlage, and Seth Gausman each racked up multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Eckstein went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs in hits.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 5-7 on the year and 2-3 in the EIAC. The Bulldogs take on Columbus East on Tuesday.

Franklin County picked up a conference win over visiting Batesville on Monday 8-7. In a game originally scheduled to be played at Batesville, FC hosted due to Batesville field conditions. After getting behind 2-0 after the top of the 2nd, FC put up 7 runs in the bottom half of the 2nd to take a 7-2 lead. Despite adding one more run in the 4th, Batesville fought back slowly adding runs in each of the last 4 innings.
Joe Fields got the win on the mound, going 6 innings. Garrett Ertel came in to get the save in the 7th inning.
Offensively, Tommy Ratz and Dalton Durbin each had 2 hits in the game. Ratz also added 3 RBI’s.
FC will play Batesville again on Thursday, the location of that game is TBD, but could also be played at FC due to field conflicts at Batesville.
