Bulldogs Knock Off Top 10 Wildcats

Batesville asserted their will over 3A #7 ranked Franklin County on their way to an 8-1 victory against the EIAC foe.

The Bulldogs got things moving in the first inning when Sam Voegele drove in two when he singled. 

The Bulldogs continued by notching three runs in the second inning. Batesville’s big bats were led by Calvin Sherwood and Trey Peters, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Riley Zink earned the win for the Bulldogs. The righty went five innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out seven. Zink also added a solo home run at the plate in the seventh inning. Freshman Jack Grunkemeyer threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Brandt Ertel took the loss for Franklin County. The Wildcat surrendered six runs on seven hits over three innings, striking out four.

Batesville had 11 hits in the game. Grunkemeyer, Max Baumer, Voegele, and Cole Werner all managed multiple hits for the Bulldogs. 

Brandt Ertle went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Franklin County in hits.

The win vaults the Bulldogs to an 8-4 record and a 4-2 record in the EIAC. The Bulldogs will look to stay on the winning side of things as they compete against Lawrence North on Friday at Liberty Park.
