Bulldogs Bats Come Alive In Win Over Pirates

Batesville claimed a 16-3 victory on Monday against EIAC rival Greensburg. The Bulldogs put up four runs in the first inning and never looked back.

The Bulldogs got things started with the first hitter, as Calvin Sherwood tripled to begin the game. The first runs were scored when Max Baumer doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.

The Bulldogs put up five runs in the seventh inning. The offensive onslaught by Batesville was led by Baumer, Sam Voegele, and William Meer, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Jacob Meer led the Bulldogs to victory on the mound. The right-hander went six innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out eight. The win takes his record to 3-2 with a 2.42 ERA. Luke Wilson threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Blane Redd took the loss for The Pirates. The pitcher surrendered six runs on seven hits over two and a third innings, striking out three.

Batesville socked one home run on the day. Riley Zink had a long ball in the sixth inning.

Batesville totaled 18 hits in the game. Zach Wade, Voegele, Jack Grunkemeyer, Zink, Baumer, and Calvin Sherwood all managed multiple hits for Bulldogs. Voegele and Wade all had three hits to lead Batesville. William Meer, Calvin Sherwood, Will Sherwood, and Sam Voegele all had two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight total stolen bases.

The win is the Bulldogs fourth in a row and takes Batesville to a 10-4 record with a 5-2 record in the EIAC. The Bulldogs look to stay on the winning side on Tuesday against Milan.
