Batesville 44, Franklin County 15
The young Bulldogs raced to a 10-0 lead over the Wildcats Tuesday night in game one at St. Anthony’s Gym in Morris. The squad played an aggressive man to man defense, forcing several fast break opportunities to lead 21-6 at half time. The second half saw more of the same as the youngsters from Franklin County were playing their first contest of the campaign together.
Chris Lewis led the team in scoring with 9, followed by Sam Johnson and Conner Drake with 7. Jack Grunkemeyer and Lewis each had 6 rebounds. Lewis also added 5 assists. Impressively the youngsters tallied 15 assists as a team and only committed 11 turnovers. The Bulldogs won the rebound battle 28-10.
Batesville 36, Franklin County 21
A much closer contest at the start of game two as the Wildcats were able to handle the Bulldog full court pressure and keep the game close at half time with the Bulldogs up 21-14. The Bulldogs turned up the man to man defensive pressure in half #2 and pulled away to win comfortably.
Gus Prickle led the squad with 8 points, followed by Johnson and Grunkemeyer with 6 each. Grunkemeyer was a workhorse on the boards with 8 rebounds, while Prickle was a solid floor general with 5 assists. The team was impressive again with 12 assists and outrebounded the Wildcats 30-19.
The 5th Graders (18-5) are in action this Saturday in the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association Southeastern Regional Tournament in Milan. At 3:00 pm the squad will play in Pool “A” vs Milan in the Milan High School Gym and at 5:00 vs. Franklin County Silver in the Milan Middle School Gym. Saturday’s pool play will determine seeding for Sunday’s bracket play, also in Milan.
