Bulldgos And Lady Pirates Shine At EIAC CC Meet

Well to say it was a hot one is an understatement! Not too many times throughout my cross country career do I remember a race being so miserable to race in at 10-11:00 in the morning as it was today. Sure felt like a mid-August, beginning of the season meet than the end of September. BUT, we trained through it all week!

The Boys really hung tough and pushed through that heat determined to defend their crown from last year. I was so proud of their efforts, especially in the last mile. They really got mentally tough and continued to pass competitors all the way to the finish line. It proved to make a huge difference in the end as the Batesville Bulldog Boys were crowned the EIAC champions, winning by 14 points over East Central. 34-50. Rushville came in 3rd with 99, Connersville 4th at 117, Greensburg 5th at 134, Franklin County 6th with 138 and South Dearborn 7th with 143. The boys had 5 individuals make the All-Conference team placing in the top 15 and they were: Adam Moster, runner up at 2nd (17:24), Dillon Murray, 5th (17:58), Joshua Myers, 7th (18:00), Joseph Choi, 8th (18:02) and Christopher Laymon, 12th (18:22). Just missing out on the top 15 was Quinten Gowdy, 18th and finishing out the Bulldogs varsity seven was John Thompson at 24th. Congratulations boys!

The Girls raced 30 minutes later as the temperature continued to rise. It wasn’t an easy race for any of the girls, but it was the Greensburg Pirates that ran very well, beating the field by 24 points and scoring just 32 points and placing all 5 of their scoring runners on the all conference team. Batesville’s top 3 ran well and were in the top 10, giving them a spot on the All-Conference team, but our next 3 struggled a bit to find their rhythm. The Bulldog’s 3 All-Conference runners were: Liz Loichinger, 4th (21:00), Emma Gausman, 7th (21:13) and Haylee Harmeyer, 8th (21:14). Then the next three were right in a row at 25, 26, and 27th…Trysta Vierling, Audrey Maupin and Audrey Weigel. Finishing out the varsity seven was Ava Ralston who crossed the line at 32nd. It was a tight race for 2nd through 4th. Rushville took the runner up spot at 56 points, followed by East Central with 66 and Batesville finished 4th with 70. 5th place went to Connersville with 153 points, South Dearborn, 6th at 166 and Franklin County in 7th with 178.

Congratulations to all the individual All-Conference runners!

Although the JV was not a scored meet or any awards were given out, it was a Batesville uniform that crossed the finish line for both the boys and the girls. On the boys side was Nathan Eckstein and for the girls, Cheyenne Laker. Way to go!

Amazingly, even with the weather conditions, we did have one Bulldog achieve a personal best and that was sophomore, Alex Livers. Way to go Alex! A tough thing to accomplish today!

Batesville will finish out the regular season this week with two meets. The first is on Tuesday at Batesville as we host our Invitational and also honor our seniors as we will be celebrating senior night. The second meet is on Thursday at Greensburg for their invitational!
