Brian Houze

Brian E. Houze, 61 years of Bright, IN passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 4, 2024. Brian graduated from East Central High School in 1981 where he played on the varsity football team. Growing up, he spent a lot of time at the Lawrenceburg Speedway. Many of his family members raced cars and Brian enjoyed working on the cars while spending weekends at the track. Shortly after serving in the United States Army, Brian was visiting his friend, who happened to be the brother of Daphne Barnes, and he took notice of her. Whether it was the homemade pizza or her house that made the perfect hunting spot, Brian never left and they were married on April 5, 1986. Brian was an avid deer hunter, He liked creating recipes that showcased venison and shared these recipes with friends.

Many of the homes that were built in Bright have Brian’s mark on them as he worked for Schmidt Builders as an interior trim carpenter at the start of his career. He would later work for Ryland homes with his brothers and they were later running crews and was responsible for the direction of subdivisions. Since he was very knowledgeable in construction, Brian was a great resource that could help with any trade. Most recently Brian was installing custom garage floors which he really enjoyed. Brian was the guy that everyone could count on to help or fix anything. He could MacGyver any problem or project that someone proposed and was always willing to lend his muscles to a friend. Brian loved to work; he worked all day long and when he got home he would find more projects to keep himself busy. Trustworthy and funny, Brian was a great husband, father, friend, and brother. He and his brothers did a lot together, whether they were golfing, playing softball, or bowling, they simply enjoyed doing life together.

Brian will be deeply missed by Daphne, his wife of 38 years and their sons Kenneth (Jenny) Houze and Kyle (Katie) Houze; mother Rita Schnebelt; grandchildren Kaiden & Kaanon Houze; siblings Angie Moore (Tracy), Duane (Brenda) Wilson, Randy (Cathy) Wilson, and Tina Black.
