Boys volleyball and girls wrestling are emerging sports

The IHSAA Board of Directors on Monday identified boys volleyball and girls wrestling as emerging sports.  This status is the first step toward each becoming an officially recognized sport.

To become recognized, at least 50 percent of the state’s member schools must participate in the sport.   Currently, there are 42 schools with a boys volleyball team and there were 350 girls who represented 113 schools in this year’s state tournament.

Total IHSAA membership is 407 schools.

We thank the IHSAA for the meeting information.
