Oldenburg 2, Greenwood Christian Academy 1 (6-5 PKs…heard on WRBI)
In a Class 1A-44 semifinal at Southwestern Shelbyville, Oldenburg Academy, in an extended penalty kick shootout, defeated Greenwood Christian Academy 2-1 (6-5 PKs).
After a scoreless first half which saw OA enjoy a sizeable advantage in possession and shots taken, the Twisters scored on rip by Jake Negovetich from the six-yard box following a header assist by Nick Folop.
It remained 1-nil until the Cougars Fernandon Lagunas answered on a shot from the middle left of the 18.

The match still wasn’t decided after best-of-five penalty kick shootout. Jacob Cornelius and Folop both made goals for OA, Lagunas and Charlie Overton connected for GCA. Both keepers made two saves and each team missed one.
That sent the contest to one-versus-one PKs where the match is decided once a team is ahead after individual pairing.
In the sixth pairing, Oldenburg’s Joseph Suttmann and Greenwood Christian’s David McLaughlin both scored (3-3 PK total). The seventh say OA’s Thomas Lohmueller and GCA’s Hayden Johnson find the net (4-4 PKs). Both teams missed their respective chances in pairing eight. In the ninth round, Luke Meyer hit for the Twisters and Noah Cottongim answered for the Cougars (5-5 PKs).
In the 10th and decisive pairing, Oldenburg’s Hayden Blair shot into the upper left of the net to give OA the edge. It proved to be the winning goal when Twister keeper Isaiah Waggoner followed with a diving stop to his left (kicker’s right) as Wyatt Schlageter tried to slip the rock low and inside the post. It was Waggoner’s fourth save in the shootout. Final score 2-1 Oldenburg (6-5 PKs).
Both Hayden Blair and Isaiah Waggoner, who made the game-winning score and stop respectively in that 10th and final PK pairing, are both freshmen.
Oldenburg outshot Greenwood Christian 35-5 in 94 minutes of play (excluding the shootout which doesn’t count statistically). Waggoner had one save during regulation and OT while Coleton Flint had 18 saves during the same period. Preston Van Til was in goal for the Cougars during the shootout.
