(Greensburg, IN) – Bond has been set at $750,000 for a man charged with Attempted Murder following an incident in the early hours of the Fourth of July.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jacob G. Brewer appeared in Decatur Circuit Court on Wednesday for an initial hearing.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says around 3:13 a.m. on July 4, Decatur County Communications received a call about a physical altercation between two men at a home on Race Street in Westport.

Authorities say the investigation determined that Brewer went to the home and confronted a resident.

Brewer allegedly produced a firearm, pointed it at the resident and pulled the trigger, but the firearm did not discharge.

A fight ensued between Brewer and the resident, with both men suffering injuries.

Brewer then left the home and located a short time later in Jennings County.

Investigators say the firearm Brewer brought to the Race Street home was recovered there, and was later determined to have been stolen from a residence in the Millhousen area.

Brewer was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder  (Level 1 felony); Intimidation; Theft (both Level 5 felonies), and Battery (Level 6 felony).

Assisting the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office was Decatur County Communications; Decatur County EMS; the Westport Fire Department, and Jennings County Sheriff’s Office.
