Betty Ruth Layton, 84, of Westport, passed away at 10:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at her residence. She was born on May 10, 1939, in Greensburg, the daughter of George & Mary (Evans) Bussberg. She has been a lifelong resident of Decatur County and graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1957. Betty had worked for Union Bank & Trust for 20 years and ASCS office for 15 years. She was a member of the Westport Order of Eastern Star where she had served as past Worthy Matron which is now with North Vernon. She was a member of the PSI IOTA XI Sorority, Zeta Nu Chapter, Westport Baptist Church where she had served as clerk and was a member of the Living Witness Choir and member of Euchre Card Club in Westport. Betty enjoyed going to the Derby Dinner Theatre, annual trip to the Praise Gathering at Pigeon Forge, YMCA where she taught water aerobics and babysitting her grandchildren. She married Norman J. Layton on June 30, 1960, at Union Baptist Church and he survives. Other survivors include her sons, Robert Earl Layton, Anthony Wade Layton both of Westport, Kevin Michael (Jill) Layton of Franklin; her grandchildren, Isaac Layton, Luke Layton & Samantha Layton. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Judy Scheryl Layton; brothers, George Bussberg & Robert Bussberg; sisters, Liviana Clapp, Carrie Land & Gracie Ralston. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home. Pastor Gary Johnson & Rev. David A. Scaggs will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
