Betsey Cowton (Page) Schuck

Betsey Cowton Schuck (Sept 13, 1929-April 20, 2023)

Betsey Cowton Page, born a New-Yorker in Newburgh, New York on Sept. 13, 1929. Betsey warmed the hearts of her father, Ernest Fred Page, and mother, Betsey Chandler Page. As missionaries in China, her parents had lost two infant daughters, so Betsey was a true blessing to them and to the world. Keeping with tradition, Betsey was given her mother’s maiden name as her middle name although she steered away from it later in years. Unfortunately, the families’ hearts were broken when Betsey’s mother passed away from cancer when she was only 8 years old. Her mother’s sister, who she called Mother Lizzie, took on the responsibility of raising Betsey.
Betsey moved frequently since her father was a pastor, making friends everywhere she went. In 1949, Betsey landed in Aurora, IN. This is where she made many lifelong friends, married Arthur Schuck and raised 5 beautiful children before their marriage ended after 27 years.
Betsey worked several jobs outside of the home in her lifetime. She was the counter girl at the Five and Dime where she brought smiles to faces as she boxed up candy, she was a telephone operator and a highlight of her career was being a business entrepreneur as she started a clothing store in Aurora, called the Joy Shoppe, all while raising her family. Later in life, she worked for U.S. Bank as an assistant manager and closed out her career in the Walmart shoe department.
Betsey was always on the go. She was engaged in church activities, spending time with friends & family and she loved to travel. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ. It was her desire and one of her last wishes that her whole family would know Him as a Savior. She lived her life serving him, taking meals to the mourning, the ill or just out of kindness. She had a passion to help others whether it meant cooking, hosting, sending thoughtful cards, making heartfelt phone calls or sprinkling general kindness all around. Betsey used her talent as a pianist to serve in the church. She enjoyed being a part of Bible School and an officer of the Alliance Women.
At the age of 93, Betsey left this earth and entered Heaven on April 20, 2023. She is survived by children, Betsey Ann (Bill) McKee of Georgetown, KY; Ron (Connie) Schuck of Newnan, GA; Brenda (Paul-deceased) Beverly of Osgood, IN; Bonnie (Bob) Cheatham of Moore Hill, IN; Terry Schuck of Aurora, IN; 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters who passed as infants: Ida Ruth Page, Elizabeth May Page, brother: Fred Page, father: Ernest Fred Page, mother: Betsey Chandler Page; stepmothers: Elizabeth Page and Alma Page.
Betsey’s visitation will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m., with the funeral service starting at 7 p.m. at Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora, IN. Memorial contributions in Betsey’s memory can be made to the funeral home.
