Bench Trial Rescheduled for Former Educator

A former professional educator at South Decatur High School still awaits a verdict after being charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor after being accused of inappropriate behavior with a 15-year-old student.

Paige M. Simon of Osgood was arrested on April 28 of 2023 and charged with stalking, a level six felony, official misconduct, a level six felony, and a Class B Misdemeanor charge of battery. Official court documents say that 600 texts were sent between Simon and the juvenile victim during her time at South Decatur before the victim stopped responding to the texts. Simon allegedly also showed up to one of the juvenile’s baseball games and continued to send texts to the juvenile, many of which were allegedly inappropriate.

Simon was originally supposed to appear in front of the Decatur County Circuit Court in January of 2024 but multiple motions for continuance by the defendant and her attorney have been filed and granted since. A bench trial was most recently scheduled for this past Monday, July 29, but has since been rescheduled to October 16 after another continuance motion was approved.
