In a news release on Thursday, Batesville’s boys basketball player Cole Pride was one of just 36 senior boys basketball players chosen as first-team Academic All-State for 2023 by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
Consideration for the award was based on grade-point average and athletic performance. IBCA members were able to nominate their senior athletes who met criteria that included a 3.5 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale, a class rank in the upper 25 percent of one’s class, and either an ACT composite score of 24 or an SAT score of 1100 (in the reading and math sections).
In his senior season, Pride averaged 15.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game.
Receiving honorable mention honors in boys basketball were Rhys Hofer (East Central) and Reid Messer (North Decatur).
On the girls side, Cora Deputy (Batesville), Caitlyn Dick (East Central), Makayla Granger-Young (Batesville), Mya McNew (South Ripley), and Julia Tiemann (East Central) earned honorable mention honors.
