Batesville varsity baseball claims lead in sixth inning to defeat Connersville 2-1

The Batesville Varsity baseball team snatched the lead late in the game in a 2-1 victory over Connersville Varsity Spartans on Monday. The game was tied at one with Batesville Varsity Bulldogs batting in the bottom of the sixth when Carter Bohman grounded out, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Batesville’s pitchers struck out six, while Brayden Lykins sat down five.

Connersville got on the board in the second inning when Braxton Myers singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the third inning, Batesville Varsity Bulldogs tied things up at one when Jack Grunkemeyer grounded out, scoring one run.

Charlie Schebler took the win for Batesville Varsity Bulldogs. Schebler went three innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out one and walking one.

Lykins took the loss for Connersville Varsity Spartans, allowed four hits and two runs over six innings.

Grunkemeyer started the game for Batesville Varsity Bulldogs. The pitcher allowed four hits and one run over four innings, striking out five.

Grunkemeyer, Alex Baumer, Schebler, and Will Jaisle all had one hit to lead Batesville.

Myers went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Connersville Varsity Spartans in hits. Connersville Varsity Spartans was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.
