(Washington, D.C.) – Area Congresswoman Erin Houchin says seven Community Project Funding requests totaling more than $7.8 million for Indiana’s Ninth District have been approved by the House Appropriations Committee after previously clearing the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee.
One of the projects receiving committee approval was $1.5 million for the Batesville stormwater system.
Funding would support construction of a new stormwater system along Six Pine Ranch Road, increasing drainage capacity, supporting existing and future business development, and addressing aging infrastructure.
Also in Southeastern Indiana, $450,000 for Switzerland County TEC Rural Innovation Center received the committee’s okay.
Funding would support capital improvements to the Switzerland County Technology and Education Center, including construction of a commercial teaching kitchen, development of a co-working space, accessibility upgrades, and infrastructure improvements to expand workforce training and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Funds for projects in Bloomington, Georgetown, Salem, Elletsville, and Floyd County also received the green light from the committee.
Community Project Funding allows Members of Congress to advocate for projects requested by local governments and community stakeholders that address specific local needs.
“I was pleased to submit these funding requests on behalf of local leaders and am happy to see them clear the Appropriations Committee,” said Congresswoman Houchin. “From improving roads and stormwater systems to supporting economic development and critical infrastructure, these investments will have a long-lasting impact in communities throughout Southern Indiana. I will continue to fight for this funding to be secured.”
The projects will now be considered as part of the Fiscal Year 2027 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act and must pass the full House of Representatives, the United States Senate, and be signed into law before funding is finalized.
