Batesville softball gets win over South Ripley in high scoring season opener

BATESVILLE—It was a high scoring affair in the season opener on Wednesday for Batesville and South Ripley, with the Bulldogs coming out with the 12-8 victory.

After 1 inning, the game was tied 1-1, but Batesville would score 4 and give up 1 in the 2nd to extend their lead to 6-2. 

South Ripley would answer with 3 runs of their own in the top of the 4th but gave up 2 runs to the Bulldogs, making it 8-5 after 4 innings. 

Then, in the 5th, both teams scored 2 runs each, leading to a Batesville 10-6 advantage at the end of 5. 

Both teams would score two more runs in the 6th to make it 12-8 Bulldogs. 

The Bulldogs shut out the Raiders in the top of the 7th to give them the win.

Leading the Bulldogs in hitting was junior Renee Lecher going 2-2 at the plate with a double, solo HR, 1 RBI, and 4 runs scored.
