Batesville Restaurant Closes Down During Lunch

Owner Martin Loya said Casa Mexicana closed due to a lack of business.
A lack of business contributed to the Batesville restaurant closing on Monday.

Casa Mexicana in Batesville has served its last meal. Although the restaurant opened last year, owner Martin Loya reached the decision to close after a lack of cliental and financial instability.

While the restaurant on East Ripley Street suddenly closed on Monday in the midst of the mid-day lunch, Loya said he had been considering closing the business for a couple months.

“Today my lease ran out and it was time to call it quits.” Loya said, “I left on my own free will. Business wasn’t going good and it wasn’t making sense.”

As workers were clearing out the restaurant on Wednesday evening, Loya acknowledged customers that have supported the business.

“All you can say is thank you very much and I appreciate the opportunity. Thanks for the patronage and all of the support from the local people,” said Loya.

He added that he will be moving back to Jasper, Indiana.
