Batesville native ‘chased home’ by Irma

Batesville, In. — Batesville native Natalie Lambert Townsend was literally chased all the way to Indiana by hurricane Irma.

Townsend, her husband and two young daughters live outside of Miami in Key Biscayne. After a mandatory evacuation order was issued the family secured their property, packed enough clothes and supplies for several and began the journey to central Florida.

Meanwhile, Irma changed course and changed the Townsend’s plans.

Then the family decided to make the drive to Indiana to insure their safety. Along the way they observed fuel shortages and hotels full of evacuees. Natalie told WRBI News they avoided most of the chaos but did take every available opportunity to keep the gas tank full.

Natalie’s husband has been able to return to the property since the storm has passed. He says there was no flooding in the house and damage was limited to some roof tiles.

It appears the family has no plans to relocate because of their hurricane experience.
