Batesville Middle boasts volleyball victories over East Central

Monday’s junior high volleyball matchups between Batesville and East Central were both won by the Bulldogs in two sets.  The BMS seventh won 25-17, 25-13 while the Dogs claimed the eighth grade contest 25-22, 25-7.  Both Bulldog clubs are now 6-0.

“The seventh graders had a strong start against East Central charging to a 6-0 lead,” said BMS coach Angie Ehrman.  “The team continued to play well and won in two sets.”

Leading all Batesville servers in the first match was Caitlyn Fox going 20 for 20 and earning 17 points. Brooke Wilhelm added 10 points, including six aces. Ella Weber chipped in three points. Maddie Haskamp and Alexis Gallagher each earned a point.

“In the front row, we had solid hitting from Ella King and Katie Wirth with two kills each,” noted Ehrman.  “Weber and Wilhelm each had one kill. There was solid passing from Eliza Weiler, Alexis Gallagher, Leigh Hertel and Madi Meyer. Also contributing to the win were Ellie Westerfeld, Sydney Campbell and Claire Niese.”

Eighth grade coach Shelly Prickel noted, “After a strong start at the net in set one of our match, we were inconsistent with both serve and serve reception.  At game point, we missed our serve yet again.  The Trojans scored five unanswered points in between twi timeouts before we earned the sideout for the victory.”

In set two, the Lady Dogs bounced back. Coach Prickel said her team was in control from start to finish with strong service runs and an aggressive attack.

Reesa Zimmerman was 12 for 12 from the service line earning 10 points including an ace. Anya Richey and Ava Walsman each chipped in six points. Addison Luers scored four service points including three aces. Grace Walter dominated net play with eight kills and a stuff block. In the front line, Zimmerman added three kills, Luers had two and Jade Martin earned the kill for match point.”
