The Mayor also noted that Batesville’s population is growing.

Bettice said the 2010 Census showed a population of 6,524 people; in the 2020 Census, that number ballooned to 7,202.

“I would venture to guess you probably can’t count more than three or four cities across the entire State of Indiana of our size that grew by 10 percent in the last 10 years,” Bettice said.

He gave credit to the jump in population to the community at large.

“We’ve been very fortunate. We have obviously been doing a few things right, and we’re very fortunate to be growing,” he added.

Bettice said for a city of 7,200-plus people, Batesville is doing quite well.

“We have amenities that most communities of our size could only dream of having,” Bettice said. “And that’s only because we’ve had so many people who have pulled in the same direction”

He concluded the State of the City with some words of encouragement.

“We have just so many of these things happening in our community. We are so lucky,” the Mayor said. “And that is sort of my pep talk that we need to keep going”

After finishing his address – which was heard live on 103.9 WRBI – Bettice opened the floor to questions from the audience.
