Batesville man arrested for theft

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Batesville man has been arrested in Columbus after police say he stole several knives and a hatchet.

According to police, Richard L. Peetz, 44, was arrested on charges of Theft and Resisting Law Enforcement.

Police say store personnel reported that Peetz was inside the store stealing knives, and when he left, he refused to stop for security.

Officers gave Peetz several commands to remove his hands from his jacket, but police say he would only show his left hand.

Peetz was tased after refusing additional commands.

After Peetz was handcuffed, police found a large hatchet and 15 knives of which 12 were stolen from the store.
